As a temporary replacement from 01/04/24 to 31/03/26, the Institute of Philosophy is looking for a

Postdoc / Doctoral Candidate (m/f/d) in the field of Philosophy

(EG 13 TV-L, part-time 50%)

The position is to be filled on a fixed-term basis for the period of 01/04/24 to 31/03/26. The successful applicant will be given the opportunity to pursue a doctorate or habilitation.

Our profile lies in the fields of Philosophy of Technology and of Economics. Philosophy in Braunschweig not only offers students on the double major Bachelor’s degree programme in Philosophy and the Master’s degree programme in KTW (Culture of the Techno-scientific World), but also students from all faculties courses in which current technologies, scientific findings and modern working and living conditions are examined and reflected upon from a humanities perspective: among others, with the help of Philosophy of Technology, Philosophy of Science and Epistemology, Natural Philosophy, Ethics, Anthropology, Phenomenology and Cultural, Legal and Social philosophy.

Your tasks

  • You will support the Chair of Philosophy (AOS: Philosophy of Technology and Science) in teaching, research and administration.
  • You will carry out research in the area of Theoretical Philosophy or Applied Ethics (of Technology, Nature, or the Life Sciences).
  • You will publish research findings and participate in national and international conferences.
  • You will be involved in teaching at the University to the extent of 2 semester periods per week (preparation and implementation of courses as well as supervision of students’ work) in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Philosophy, in the Master’s degree programme KTW and in the minor subject area.
  • You will support the Institute in applying for research projects and organising conferences.

Your Qualifications

  • You have a degree (Master’s or equivalent; doctoral degree in case of desired habilitation) in Philosophy or Cultural Studies with a philosophical focus with a grade of at least “good”.
  • You have very good knowledge of one of the two languages German or English and at least good knowledge of the other.
  • You bring teaching experience.
  • Experience in the fields of Phenomenology, Philosophy of Technology and Natural Philosophy as well as a historical focus are an advantage, but not a requirement. 
  • You are flexible, can perform under pressure and work well in a team.
  • You are aiming for further scientific qualification.
