This one-day workshop brings together scholars of early modern philosophy and German idealism to comment on and discuss topics related to Jim Kreines’s new book ‘Hegel and Spinoza’ (Cambridge University Press 2026). The book concerns Hegel’s engagement with Spinoza’s metaphysics, including Hegel’s interpretation of Spinoza’s monism, his criticism that Spinoza’s philosophy must eliminate all finitude and determinacy, and the way in which understanding this engagement can help us understand Hegel’s Logic.
The workshop is hosted by Sebastian Bender and Andrew Stephenson at the LMU, Munich. The speakers are: Jim Kreines, Claremont McKenna; Karolina Hübner, UCLA; Ulrich Schlösser, Tübingen; Andreas Schmidt, Jena. Participation is free and open to all but please let us know if you will attend so that we have an accurate idea of numbers.
LMU, Munich, Friday June 26th, 2026, Leopoldstr. 13. House 2, Room 2401 (4th floor)
