Call for Applications: Theda Rehbock Philosophy Residency 2026–2027
Applications are now open for the 2026–2027 Prof. Dr. Theda Rehbock Philosophy Residency at Susimetsa Philosophicum, Estonia.
The residency offers philosophers 2–3 weeks of dedicated time and space for concentrated reading, thinking and writing in a peaceful setting near Pärnu, Estonia. It is designed as a retreat from everyday academic and social obligations, with no required teaching or public programme.
Standard residency accommodation is free of charge; residents pay only a one-time cleaning fee. Optional accommodation upgrades are available.
We welcome applications from philosophers at all career stages, including graduate students, early-career researchers, and senior scholars. We particularly welcome projects in moral philosophy, bioethics, history of philosophy, philosophy of science and technology, AI ethics, and philosophy of education.
The residency honours Prof. Dr. Theda Rehbock (1957–2021), German philosopher and bioethicist. Projects engaging with her work or related themes, including autonomy, dignity, paternalism, good life, good death, emotions, philosophy as a way of life, and language and ethics, are also especially welcome.
Since 2023, Susimetsa has welcomed residents from 22 countries. Reflections and experiences from previous residents can be found on Susimetsa’s website.
