Title: „How to be a Transcendental Idealist.”

Abstract: In this talk I articulate Transcendental Idealism (TI) purely as a position in metaphysics. I argue that it is superior, in numerous respects, to its contemporary rivals (e.g. deflationism, inflationary realism, physicalism, etc.). I show that various objections that have been raised against TI over the centuries are either based on misunderstandings, or can be answered. While work remains to be done, TI deserves to be one of the main contenders in contemporary metaphysics.
Kurzbiographie: Stang is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Toronto and two-time Canada Research Chair in Metaphysics and its History. His work focuses on Kant and pre- and post-Kantian German philosophy, and on contemporary metaphysics. His first book, Kant’s Modal Metaphysics, was published by Oxford University Press in 2016 and he is currently working on a book about what Kant’s critique of metaphysics has to do with contemporary analytic metaphysics.
