The University of Technology Nuremberg is looking to fill, at the earliest possible date, a position as a
Professor (m/f/d) (W3) of Practical Philosophy with a Focus on Ethics
at the Department of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Your tasks:
At the Department of Liberal Arts and Sciences, you represent the subject of practical philosophy in research and teaching with a focus on ethics. The University of Technology Nuremberg understands artificial intelligence as a subject of different fields of knowledge and aims to combine the knowledge and know-how of humanities, social and natural sciences with engineering disciplines in order to find solutions for the major social challenges of our time. You contribute to this interdisciplinary research on artificial intelligence, in particular to the research topics "Human and Artificial Intelligence" and "Political Communication and Democracy Education". The first topic concerns the relationship between forms of human knowledge practices and the functioning of artificial intelligence. Its aim is to ensure that applications of artificial intelligence bring the greatest possible benefit for individuals and society. The second topic deals with the influence of digital transformation on communication and democracy and aims to identify and minimize problematic effects and adapt applications of digital technologies to current and future challenges. You will also collaborate with the university's computer science experts.
Your profile:
Excellent research achievements in ethics are expected and should be demonstrated by relevant publications and conference contributions. Research achievements on ethics of artificial intelligence are especially welcomed. Historical approaches and research on ethical concepts of past eras are expressly welcome. In addition, you should have a second focus in practical philosophy, preferably in political philosophy with a focus on democracy research. You should be able to demonstrate this by relevant publications and conference contributions as well. The University of Technology Nuremberg aims to combine historical and systematic approaches, especially regarding fruitful cooperation with experts in engineering.
Interest and experience in interdisciplinary cooperation with disciplines represented at the University of Technology Nuremberg (e.g. computer science, mathematics, psychology, robotics, classical philology) are an advantage. You should demonstrate this interest and experience in your application and in the selection process, as well as your willingness to contribute to the aforementioned research topics "Human and Artificial Intelligence" and "Political Communication and Democracy Education".
Teaching experience, ideally in interdisciplinary contexts, is desired. We expect your participation in all teaching activities at the Department, including study course planning and engagement in the development of innovative digital teaching and learning concepts, as well as cooperation within and across departments.
