Deutsche Telekom Female Excellence Award: Research Award and Start-Up Competition for the Deutsche Telekom Award: Ethics of Digitization

While AI presents new ethical challenges, it can also help to improve ethical standards in science, society, and politics. The Telekom Award on Ethics of Digitalization, sponsored by Deutsche Telekom, invites fresh ideas on how to use AI to foster ethics in everyday practice, i.e. in scientific lab practice, in political decision making, in international politics, or society more broadly. The award includes two categories, (a) a research competition and (b) a startup competition.

The competition is open to early career female researchers and entrepreneurs. Applicants will submit their entries to one of the two categories:

a) research competition: Female students and doctoral candidates can submit outstanding theses that engage with AI and ethics in everyday practice. Submitted work must be no more than three years old and is not restricted to a specific field. The dissertation or thesis can come from any discipline in the natural, engineering, or social sciences, or the humanities.

b) start-up competition: Female entrepreneurs can submit their business concepts. The company must have been founded in the last three years.

In both categories, the award will carry a cash prize of 5,000 EUR and the winners will present their work or business idea at a conference involving Deutsche Telekom and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, KIT.

The deadline for submission is March 31st, 2023.

The award is administered by the KIT Academy for Responsible Research, Teaching, and Innovation (ARRTI), which fosters responsibility in teaching, research, and innovation with a twofold focus: Ethical areas of conflict in the field of digitization are to be identified as such and critically examined.

We look forward to your submission!
