Bias and Discrimination in Big Data and Algorithmic Processing

Beginn:27.04.2023, 09:00 UhrEnde:28.04.2023, 17:00 Uhr

The conference addresses the implications of the use of artificial intelligence in different areas of modern societies. It has a special focus on issues of fairness and equality, and on threats of algorithmic bias and wrongful discrimination, that are conjured up by the application of big data analysis and machine learning techniques. The conference takes an interdisciplinary view on these topics, including ethical assessments, legal viewpoints as well as concrete suggestions for technical solutions. It brings together international experts from the disciplines of philosophy, law and computer science to promote interdisciplinary exchange and develop new perspectives on the impact of artificial intelligence on future societies.

The conference is organized by the BIAS project, an interdisciplinary research group located at Leibniz University Hannover, funded by the Volkswagen Foundation (www.bias-project.org). It will take place on April 27/28, 2023 at Leibnizhaus, Holzmarkt 4-6, 30159 Hannover, Germany. The conference is an in-person only event. Admission is free of charge, but registration is required by March 31, 2023 via the following form: https://konferenz.uni-hannover.de/e/biasanddiscrimination2023
